Mohamed Salah Uncertainty Stalks Liverpool Transfer
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s future is looking murky, while a past transfer decision has come under the spotlight.
In 2022, the Reds were rumoured to be pondering signing Antony from Ajax as a potential replacement for Salah, whose contract renewal was uncertain at the time.
Two years later, during an interview on Wednesday, 20 November, Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, confirmed that Liverpool’s interest in the 24-year-old winger was genuine. However, negotiations fell through when Salah extended his deal with the Reds until 2025, continuing the work he started nearly a decade ago.
Antony eventually joined Manchester United for £85 million. The move was seen as a high-priority signing for the Dutchman’s debut season at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, Antony’s United stint has fallen far short of expectations.
The Brazilian has managed just five goals and three assists in 56 English Premier League appearances, drawing criticism from fans and pundits alike.
Liverpool’s decision to retain Salah proved wise, with the 32-year-old Egyptian continuing to deliver remarkable performances. Since his 2017 arrival, Salah has netted 221 goals across all competitions, further establishing his legacy as one of the club’s greatest players.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are reportedly considering offloading Antony during the upcoming transfer window as part of a squad overhaul.
For now, Salah’s future remains up in the air as his contract expiration date draws closer.
